When my daughter was born I received several of the traditional baby books where I should have recorded her height and weight and key milestones in pristine handwriting. But I was working, in fact, my first day back at work was October 10, 2011 and I was on a plane to Washington DC on October 12, 2011. (Pumping in Dulles airport is not for the faint of heart) And I’m not crazy about my handwriting. So I went with the modern version of a baby book, I started a tumblr and I documented as much as I could, including milestones.
There are a few benefits to this approach:
Her grandparents and aunts and uncles can keep up with what’s going on in her life any time they want.
I can update her “baby book” while waiting at a doctor’s appointment, an airport, or from the parent waiting area at gymnastics.
I can record milestones that no baby book manufacturer would think of like baby’s first nutcracker ballet or first time being in a commercial for sparkle bibles (yes, that really happened).
I’m able to easily record the craziness that comes out of her mouth. I use Little Hoots for styling her quotes. She has had some doozies.
I don’t have to spend hours at Hobby Lobby buying scrapbooking materials. Oh yeah and I don’t have to spend hours actually scrapbooking!
The downside is it’s all online and what if she wants to look at her baby book some day?
I scoured the internet and found Into Real Pages. Every 6 months, I log onto Into Real Pages and create a book from the last 6 months of posts. Into Real Pages does all of the layout, so I don’t spend hours of moving pictures around and trying to think of captions. Then it comes in the mail and I get to page through all of the crazy stuff she’s said and funny pictures I’ve taken.
