My daughter loves TV so I’m always looking for shows, podcasts and activities that have educational value. Here are my top 3 right now:
TV Show: Brainchild on Netflix. Brainchild’s host, Sahana, a Senior at The University of Texas, does a great job of making science fun and engaging for kids. The beauty is that I don’t mind watching it either. Sometimes she breaks down psychological constructs that I know and sometimes I learn something new like the names of the layers in the ocean.
We had the chance to meet Sahana last week at Thinkery and it was great to see her in real life.
Podcast: We also have a favorite science podcast for in the car: WOW in the World. Mindy Thomas, Guy Raz and Reggie cover detailed scientific topics with hilarious mishaps and a lot of imagination. It’s great because it keeps car rides interesting and gives us topics to discuss. Plus, there are adorable shout-outs at the end of each show from kids who have called in from around the world. was the soundtrack of our trips to summer school.
Activity: We also love to see science in real life. Last week, we saw Kate The Chemist work her magic at an event at our local children’s museum, Thinkery. Kate used chemicals to make gummy worms before our eyes! Even better was the way Kate talked about her friends in the sciences and the cool projects they are doing. She showed the girls in the room that science is for girls and girls support girls. Two amazing lessons in one.
Here is Kate on Stephen Colbert:
