Several years ago, a dear friend gave me a framed copy of this quote (really an excerpt from an article) written by Joan Solotar in the Harvard Business Review for my birthday. I was a few years into being a working mom and every sentence on this quote just called out to me. I put it on my desk, right next to my computer monitor and every day at least one line would catch my eye. “Know the numbers inside and out” when I was on a call with finance or “Even CEOs ask questions.” when the company president would stop by.
I really love everything in this article but the reason I chose this as my first post is theme of this blog will be “Pay it forward and good things happen.” I want to share the clever tricks I use as a professional, mom, wife, sister, friend and volunteer.
About a year after I got the quote, I asked my best friend to re-write the quote in her handwriting (isn’t it so great?) and then I had it printed on the first page of pocket journals to give as holiday gifts. It was the perfect gift for co-workers. I gave it to both women and men. This is how it turned out:
